Biography

LCol R.A. Carr CD, (CIC) 2004-

 

Lieutenant Colonel Carr began his military career as an Air Cadet in 333 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Fredericton, NB. in 1958. In 1972 he enrolled as an Infantry Officer in the First Battalion, Royal New Brunswick Regiment (Carleton & York) and served in various capacities from Platoon Commander to Quartermaster, Adjutant, and 2IC of B Company. In 1989 LCol Carr joined Regional Emergency Government Headquarters in Fredericton, NB and in 1990 he transferred to Western New Brunswick Militia District serving as a Public Affairs Officer. In 1992, LCol Carr was appointed Senior Public Affairs Officer for the newly formed NB/PEI District.

In May 1996, LCol Carr transferred to the Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC) and became Commanding Officer of 242 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Fredericton, NB. In January 2000 he transferred to 2550 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Harvey, NB and assumed command. In September 2003, LCol Carr was appointed Area Cadet Instructor Cadre Officer for New Brunswick and in October 2003 he was also appointed Acting Area Cadet Officer (Army) for the NB/PEI Detachment of the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Atlantic) and served in this capacity till the position was filled permanently in January 2004. After joining the CIC Branch, LCol Carr served for several summers at Argonaut Army Cadet Summer Training Center, Camp Gagetown before being appointed Commanding Officer in January 2004.

LCol Carr is a graduate of Fredericton High School and has received Degrees as a Bachelor of Arts (History) and Bachelor of Education from Saint Thomas University and a Master of Education from the University of New Brunswick. In civilian life, LCol Carr is retired from the Public School System having served as a teacher and Guidance Counselor for 30 years. His interests include travel, general handy man, automobilia, and is also a licensed private pilot. Ham Radio has long been an interest to him and goes under the call sign VE9CO.

LCol Carr is married to the former Charlotte Agnew and they have two grown children and one grandchild.
