LCol Terry Kopan awarded the OMM by the Governor General

Abbotsford resident, Lt.-Col. Terry Kopan, Regional Advisor (Pacific), Cadet Instructor Cadre Branch Advisory Council, appeared before Her Excellency the Right Honourable MichaŽlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on Friday, Jan. 30 to receive the insignia as Officer of the Order of Military Merit.

A member of the Canadian Forces Reserve, Cadet Instructor Cadre Branch since 1980, Lt.-Col Kopan began working with the cadet program in Saskatchewan, has led several cadet corps in British Columbia and eventually became the Commanding Officer of the Vernon Army Cadet Summer Training Centre. In his full-time career, Lt.-Col Kopan is an RCMP Inspector at "E" Division Headquarters where he is Officer in Charge of Crime Prevention Services. Lt.-Col Kopan was influential in national policy changes between the RCMP and the Canadian Forces that allow RCMP members to serve concurrently as Canadian Forces Reserve Officers, particularly to support the cadet organizations.

Lt.-Col. Kopanís consistently outstanding service to Canada, the Canadian Forces and the young people of the nation causes him to be an exceptionally deserving candidate for the award. He resides in Abbotsford with his wife Kathi and two children. The Order of Military Merit has three levels, Commander, Officer, and Member and is next in precedence to the Order of Canada.

LCol Kopan is this first CIC member to be awarded both the OMM and the MOM as a member of the RCMP.
