Maj Gary Law 


Major Law was born and raised in Hong Kong. He came to Canada in 1982 as an international student. Attending Parkdale Collegiate Institute in Toronto, where he completed Grade 13. He then furthered his studies at Dalhouisie University in the Faculty of Business Administration. He recieved his Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1987. 

Major Law began his military career in 1989 when he joined the 11th (Victoria) Service Battalion as a Second Lieutentant. In 1991, he transfered to 12th Sercive Battalion as a Lieutenant. He was placed in the Supplementary Reserve List in 1993. During that time he was offered an excellent oppurtunity to work in Hong Kong as a high school teacher. He joined the Royal Hong Kong Police Force at the same time. As Major Law recieved a best overall standing in all the subjects through out the recruiting course he recieved both the Silver Whistle and the Commandant's Certificate for the Highest Academic Result. He was posted to the Emergency Unit of the Force to deal with high profile cases/situations. In 1995, he returned to Canada and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as a regular member. His first posting after graduation from the RCMP Training Depot was to the Richmond Detatchment. 

Major Law decided to join the 2381 BCR (Irish Fusiliers) RCACC in January 2002 as a Training Officer. Due to his excellent performance and the Commanding Officer's recomendation, he was promoted to the rank of Captain in June 2002. At that time he was both the Training Officer and Unit Human Rights Advisor for the unit. 

Major Law was presented the Queen's Jubilee Medal in 2002. In addition the Richmond Detatchment also presented him the Excellence in Performance Award to him in 2001. The Richmond City Council appointed him to the Richmond Intercultural Advisory Committee in December 2002. He has been nominated for the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire Club twice in the past number of years. 

Major Law resides in Richmond with his wife Anny, his wife of 15 years and has three children, ages 14, 9 and 7. His hobbies include singing, jogging, martial arts and playing badminton.
