Biography

LCol Aubrey Halfyard CD

Aubrey Halfyard was born and educated in St John's and during his thirty-six year career with the Newfoundland Government, worked for the Departments of: The Auditor General, Tourism, Industrial Development and Education. He retired as Director of Financial
Services and Operations for the Dept of Education in 1994. He has been involved with the Army Cadet movement since his days as
a cadet with No 2429 St Patrick's Hall army cadet corps. Following graduation from high school, he became a member of the Cadet
Instructor Cadre, first at St Patrick's Hall Army Cadets where he spent two years and later with No 2515 St John's Army Cadet Corps
where he subsequently became the corps' Commanding Officer.

In 1979, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and appointed to the position of Cadet Instructor Cadre Officer for
Newfoundland and Labrador. He held that position until 1984. In addition to his involvement with the instructional element of the
army cadet program, he has held a number of positions with the Army Cadet League of Canada. These include President of the Newfoundland & Labrador Branch from 1984 to 1988 and National Army Cadet League President from 1994 to 1996. 

He still serves on the Army Cadet League's National Body as a Provincial Governor. He currently holds, the position of Treasurer with the Newfoundland and Labrador League Branch. Mr Halfyard also serves on the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Advisory Council and chairs the Regimental Museum Committee. His involvement with the Signal Hill Tattoo Historic Military Animation Program, featuring the Royal Newfoundland Regiment of Foot, circa 1800, extends from 1979 to the present day. He served as a Tattoo Committee member from 1979 to 1991 and as its Chairman from 1992 to 2005. He continues to serve on the executive committee of that organization as its Treasurer.

Mr Halfyard resides with his wife, Bertha, in Mount Pearl. They have three daughters and three grandchildren.
