Biography

Captain R.A. Matte CD


Born in Windsor, Ontario April 17, 1967. The second of three children and the only boy. Attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School, W.D. Lowe secondary, and St. Clair College. In grade school was a member of the track and field, basketball, and soccer team. Also a Safety Patrol for 3 years attaining rank of Lieutenant, and joined 1112 Windsor Regiment cadet corps at age 13. In 1985 at age 18 graduated from W.D. Lowe with Ontario Diploma and retired cadets as a Master Cadet (Gold Star & Wreath) and attained the rank of Master Warrant Officer. 

Captain Matte became a Civilian Instructor in 1987 and Officer in the Cadet Instructor Cadre in 1990, all with 2861 Royal Canadian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (R.C.E.M.E.). He received his Canadian Forces Decoration in 2002, the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal, and The Order of Saint John Hospitaller, both in 2003. 

Captain Matte has worn many hats within 2861, Instructor, Administration Officer, Supply Officer, Deputy Commanding Officer under three different C.O.ís, and Commanding Officer 1999 to 2000. He has also worked 14 summers at training centres in, Ipperwash, Blackdown, and Connaught.

Captain Matte now resides in Ottawa, Ontario, and is a member of 2784 Governor Generalís Foot Guards Cadet Corps.
