History

This Corps was originally formed 26 May 1906 as The Queen Square School Cadet Company. Minutes of the P.E.I. Strathcona Trust Fund for 1943 and 1944 reveal that 20 West Kent School Corps, Queen Square School Cadet Corps and the 107 Prince of Wales Cadet Corps were disbanded in 1944 (#148 officially disbanded 15 Jan 1944) and the cadets were amalgamated into an open corps known as 1933 Charlottetown Army Cadet Corps. This arrangement lasted until 1946 annual inspection. This corps was disbanded effective 30 June 1947. Both West Kent and Queen Square were re-established as separate Cadet Corps in 1947.

In Mar 1948 authority was granted to reform this Corps, effective 10 Nov 1947 and it became known as the 148 Queen Square School Cadet Corps. The Corps was sponsored by the Queen Square School and the Corps was affiliated with 17 RECCE Regt (RA). In Dec 1949 the affiliation changed to P.E.I. Regt (17th RECCE Regt). In Mar 58 authority was requested to redesignate the Corps due to a move of schools and the Corps became known as Birchwood High School Cadet Corps. On May 1, 1958 affiliation changed to P.E.I. Regt RCAC. In Mar 1973 sponsorship changed to Regional Administrative School Unit 3. Letter 1085-11-3 (COS RO) dated 31 Mar 1983 proposed the Corps be placed on probation due to inefficiency and improper training for a period of one year (no official probation). Eff 21 Dec 1994 designation changed from 148 Birchwood High School Cadet Corps to 148 Charlottetown Army Cadet Corps. Sponsor changed to Prince Edward Island Regt (D Cdts Adm 844). H.Q. 12-151-1
