History -   

The roots of cadets in Kitchener/Waterloo go back as far as #114 Waterloo Rifles Cadet Corps formed in 1914, and disbanded in 1922; and in #644 Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate Institute Cadet Corps formed in 1915, and disbanded in 1926.

1596 The St. John's Cadet Corps was formed in Kitchener on 6 Feb 1939. affil.: Scots Fusiliers of Canada July 10, 1942. In 42 it was affiliated with the Scots Fusiliers, and changed its name accordingly in 1943. redisig: 1596 Scots Fusiliers Cadet Corps Feb 23, 1943. The corps disbanded 21 Dec 54.

2873 Kitchener-Waterloo Cadet Organization Police School Cadet Corps was formed 1 Dec 1970. It was sponsored by Cadet Organization Police School (COPS) Kitchener-Waterloo, and was affiliated with the Highland Fusiliers of Canada. 

CF 790 for 96/97 says that this corps is placed on probation for numbers for one year with progress reports submitted in Dec & June before further action is taken.

2921 Waterloo County Regional Cadet Corps was formed 1 Nov 73 and sponsored by the Waterloo County Board of Education. It was affiliated by 1st Bn, RCR. In 1975 change of affiliation to The Highland Fusiliers of Canada (no documentation). D Cdts Admin 2038 of 27 Nov 87 authorized disbandment.

Eff 1 Dec 70, 2873 Kitchener-Waterloo Cadet Organization Police School Cadet Corps reformed/redesignated as 1596 Waterloo Regional Cadet Organization Police School Cadet Corps (D Cdts Adm 2029). It affiliated with the Highland Fusiliers of Canada and sponsored by Waterloo Regional Cadet Organization Police and Waterloo County Board of Education. Support Base CFB London.

D Cdts Admin 2029 of 25 Nov 87 authorized the amalgamation of 2873 and 2921 into one corps to be known as 1596 WATERLOO REGIONAL CADET ORGANIZATION POLICE SCHOOL CADET CORPS. The original date of formation of 2873 is also the official anniversary date of 1596 and the original UIC for 2873 was also retained for this new corps. In order to perpetuate the history of the Army Cadet Movement in the area, the number 1596 has been assigned to this new corps.
