History -

This Corps was formed in 1909. It is the oldest corps in Manitoba. Originally it was formed under 'A' Company, No. 19. "B" Coy was formed on 4 Jan 1913 and 'C' Coy on 11 Jun 1929, all under the sponsorship of the Manitoba School Board. From 1929 to 1969, the Corps was called Portage la Prairie Schools Cadet Battalion. affil.: 48th Anti-Tank Regt SP RCA. On 11 Apr 60 affiliation was authorized with 38th Fd Bty, 26th Fd Regt (SP). On 31 Mar 65 affiliation was assumed by 26th Fd Artillery (SP). On 24 Nov 69 the 38th Fd Bty, RCA, assumed sponsorship of corps which became known as No. 19 Portage la Prairie Cadet Corps with same affiliation. In 1971 change of sponsorship to 13th Fd Bty RCA (M). A message dated 19 Dec 73 states possession of a letter relinquishing 13th Fd Bty as a sponsor and a letter from Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans of Canada, Unit 13 accepting sponsorship. Due to the impending closure of CFB Portage La Prairie, CFB Winnipeg has assumed the duties of support base (D Cdts memo 21 Jul 92 refers). Corps recommended for disbandment Feb 96. H.Q. 12-P-5 & H.Q. 86-1-33
