1978 Commonwealth Summer Games

The 1978 Commonwealth Games were held in Edmonton and the Royal Canadian Army Cadets on Basic Para Course 7813 were tasked twofold:

a. To line a portion of roadway at CFB Namao as a salute to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II as her motor cavalcade passed on the way to Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, and subsequently

b. To carry placards while leading each participating nation's athletes onto the field of Commonwealth Stadium at the opening ceremony; this being done in conjunction with the massed pipe bands of Alberta and a regimental guard from Lord Strathcona's Horse [Royal Canadians]. This was an impressive and colorful opening ceremony to observe.
