Over a course that covered 25 kilometers, 58 army cadets, all members of the B.C. Dragoons from 1705 RCACC Vernon, 903 RCACC Kelowna and 788 RCACC Penticton, hiked, ran, rode bicycles, abseiled, tested their marksmanship, and canoed in a gruelling race that lasted up to eight hours for the four-cadet teams. Finishing first, in a time of five hours and 35 minutes, was the elite team from 1705 RCACC Vernon. Lead by C/CWO Shadoe Rowe, the team included C/WO Jessica Worrall, C/Sgt Blythe Haywood and C/Cpl Luke Folden. Billed as the Amazing Race, the day-long event was designed by Captain Mitch Steck not only to test the skills of the cadets, but to provide an opportunity for them to meet other members of their affiliated units. "Meeting new friends," was one of the positives of the weekend exercise said one young cadet at the final wrap up.
