8 April 2011

On 8 April 2011, over 300 cadets and 150 youth from Encounters with Canada participated in the first National Youth Vimy Ceremony in Ottawa.

This ceremony was tagged by the media as The Beginning of a New Era and hailed by His Excellency as being:
"This is the largest youth contingent ever to observe Vimy Ridge Day in Canada, and it is an honour to share this moment with you."

10 Cadet Corps from the National Capital Region, including a contingent of cadets from RCSU(Atlantic) filled roles normally occupied by members of the Canadian Forces.

The ceremony was followed by an overnight vigil at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier until relieved by the CF.
