This day in Canadian Military History...

13 July 1687
A French army of 2500 regulars and Canadian militia, accompanied by native allies, engage a large Seneca force. They leave on the field 27 of their warriors; the French lose 11 men. Pursuit is not an option for the victors, as summer heat and a long march have exhausted the troops.

13 July 1916
Canadian troops are employed at the front around Armagh and Sanctuary Woods, reinforcing the trench lines and bringing supplies and ammunition forward.

13 July 2006

Private Carl Lamont was deployed with the Health Support Services Company, 1 PPCLI Battle Group during Operation ARCHER. On July 13, 2006, an element of the reconnaissance platoon came under heavy enemy fire from a compound located in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, and was isolated from the rest of the platoon. During the firefight, another soldier was shot while attempting to withdraw back to the firing line and was unable to continue. Without regard for his personal safety, Private Lamont, under concentrated enemy fire and with no organized suppression by friendly forces, sprinted through open terrain to administer first aid. Private Lamont's actions demonstrated tremendous courage, selflessness and devotion to duty. Private Lamont will later be awarded the Medal of Military Valour for his gallant actions.
