CPO1 Dave Bliss MMM CD



Chief Petty Officer 1st Class David Bliss, originally enrolled as a cadet in 1973 with the 1913 Ontario Regiment Cadet Corps.  He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in October 1977 and after initial trades training as a Naval Weapons Technician was posted to the West Coast.  Throughout his career he sailed in HMC Ships, Terra Nova, Qu’Appelle, Restigouche, Algonquin, Regina and Winnipeg.

CPO1 Bliss served as a Basic Recruit Instructor at CFRS Cornwallis NS, and was posted to NDHQ Ottawa on 3 separate occasions as the LCMM Naval Weapons Systems, Career Manager and RCN Strategic Readiness.  

He operationally deployed with the Standing NATO Atlantic Fleet in 1991, United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia in 1992, Persian Gulf 1997, and Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 for anti-piracy patrols off Africa in 2009.  He was invested into the Order of Military Merit in November 1992.  

In January of 2009 he was designated as Coxswain of HMCS Winnipeg and in July 2010 was appointed as the Fleet Chief Petty Officer for the Pacific Fleet.  He completed his Regular Force career as the Strategic Readiness CPO for the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring in 2014.

In the summer of 2014, CPO1 Bliss re-enrolled into the Cadet Organization Administration and Training Services (COATS) of the Reserves and was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the Vernon Cadet Training Centre.  He served in that capacity until August of 2018.
